As a newcomer to this listserv, let me introduce myself. I'm a writer and
editor with the Center for Environmental Policy at the University of South
Carolina's Institute of Public Affairs. I write and edit for a quarterly
publication titled "E2SC: Environmental Excellence in South Carolina" and
for the new quarterly newsletter for the DoD Region IV P2 Partnership. It's
the newsletter I'd like to discuss for the time being.

I'm soliciting ideas for future newsletter articles, ideas having to do with
P2 and Region IV states, military installations, and related organizations.
We're looking for P2 successes you've had, techniques you've tried, problems
you've encountered, studies you've done, programs you've set in place, and
new technologies you've incorporated. I would be grateful for any
suggestions you send my way.

More specifically, I would appreciate any suggestions for a story I'm
working on now. I've read several articles recently, including ones in the
mainstream press, about the use of "environmentally friendly" ammo at
military firing ranges. Will the changeover to the new ammo affect your
particular military installation? (I know that Fort Jackson, SC, for
example, is one of several Army posts that are making the switch, but I'd
like to know which military bases or posts in other Region IV states are
making the switch also.) If the answer is "yes," what is the time frame
at your installation for making the transition to the new ammo? Any
thoughts on this issue?

A related subject is the environmental redesign of small-arms ranges, "one
of several DoD initiatives to prevent potential migration of heavy metals
off the ranges." On this subject I pose questions similar to the ones
above.

Thanks for your help.
