Here is a page that talks about tank recertification.
http://home.sprynet.com/~damouth/Tips/OPD.htm
Of course, changing out the old POL type valves for the new OPD or QCC
valves would be the most environmentally friendly method of management.
However, it is my understanding that once a tank is disabled by being cut or
pierced so as to render it unable to contain gas, that it can be managed the
same as other solid waste.....preferrably recycled as a scrap metal.
Someone, please correct me if I am wrong on this.

On April 2002, 4 to 40 pound propane cylinders must be updated by law with
the new valve fitting. Anticipating that residents will start calling
seeking disposal options for the outdated cylinders, I am wondering if
anyone has addressed this issue as of yet and if so in what way?
