Both Union and Waste Reduction Products will want clean drywall waste
keep their product lines consistent and certifiable as both produce
agricultural fertilizer. Dirty waste with nails, screws, paint, vinyl
and paper needs more attention and may not be easily recycled. Also
bear in mind that even new drywall comes in many different forms which
may not be suitable for recycling. Moisture resistant boards such as
exterior gypsum board or interior "greenboard" have asphalt added.
Boards rated for ceilings and some fire rated boards have fiber
reinforcement. I have ground small quantities of drywall on site for
use as a soil amendment to hard clay, (calcium sulphate, similar to
lime). I used a heavy duty chipper. It's tedious nasty work and hard
on the chipper. You don't end up with much volume as it tends to be
"self dispersing" if you catch my drift. Mulch and soil processing
operations may be the best bet.
