Beloved colleagues,

Here is a request for information from one of our own. If you have
any suggestions, please help.

Our company uses a shot blast system to prepare metal for powder coating.
Two waste streams are created in the process. The first is a fine powder
consisting primarily of iron, mill scale, rust and other surface artifacts.
The second is a clean metal shot of uniform size that is too small to be
reused as shot blast material. It is the consistency of fine sand. This is
the material we want to recycle. Apparently, the mills can't use it in the
furnaces because of its small particle size. I have sent off a sample to a
company that makes dead blow hammers but have not heard back from them. The
other possibility is using it in a chemical formulation such as ferric
chloride. Again, I have not heard back from a chemical manufacturer I
contacted. Do you know how others are dealing with used shot? I would
appreciate any help you or the group could offer in this regard. Thanks.

Best always,
Tom
