Hi Everyone,
I was at a Health & Fitness Fair for our community's Seniors recently and
another vendor/ booth occupant came up to my booth and said, "Hey, we are in
the same industry, we should get together to share information." He saw my
information on the County's new HHW facility and took his cue from that.
His business, it turns out, is selling ozone generators for the home to use
as air fresheners. I immediately told him not only are we not in the same
industry but that his product was extremely harmful. He used his sales
pitch info to try to convince me that ozone is not harmful and that all the
past studies on the effects of ozone are incorrect. He further tried to
convince me that his product was safe by stating it was designed by a
scientist. I told him that scientist should know better.
I know better and could not be convinced by his false statement, but I am
concerned for the seniors and all residents of my county who could be easily
convinced by such a pitch. More frightening was when I tried to find
information on this company on-line; not just one or two companies popped
up, there are many companies selling these Ozone Generators with the premise
that they will clean your air using ozone. Only one of the vendor web sites
I visited indicated that the generator should not be used with humans or
animals in the immediate area. All other sites touted that the product was
completely safe and effectively kills odors and bacteria in the home.
This sales person was so convinced that his product was safe and effective
he offered to send me articles on the recent studies that show ozone is not
harmful for human inhalation... I have yet to see these articles.
Please be aware that these companies are out there and marketing their
products to residents within our communities. The EPA has an article on
line about these generators: http://www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html
