Resale"
Orlando Sentinel (03/09/02) P. 7; Foerste, Eleanor C.

The Florida Green Building Coalition has unveiled a new set of voluntary
standards and an affiliated certification program designed to promote
residential construction principles that reduce pollution and
foster healthy communities. The Florida Green Home designation
signifies that a property not only is energy efficient beyond the
level mandated under the state's new unified building code but
also that it is built to conserve water, reduce construction
waste, and minimize the potential of indoor mold and mildew.
Research indicates that Florida Green Homes can be ecologically
beneficial without differing in appearance from other properties.
Moreover, they increase the home's durability, provide mortgage
incentives, improve affordability, and increase profitability
during resale. Both custom and production builders can easily
apply the principles - such as sloping soil away from the
structure and extending downspouts three feet beyond the building
- to either new or existing homes. Certification is awarded,
however, only after an independent third party trained in
principles of environmental design and construction in Florida
verifies implementation of the program's standards.
