As many of you already know both North and South Carolina are exploring
legislation that addresses the growing problem of electronic waste.
In SC, the proposed bill has been deferred until the next legislative
session that will begin in January 2003, but we will keep you posted on key
information and legislators that can be contacted starting this Fall.
In NC, the Environmental Review Commission was planning on discussing this
issue at their upcoming meeting May 16 and 17, but with redistricting and
the budget hanging over this session, Legislators are trying to avoid any
potentially controversial (or time consuming) issues.
This is a critical time to show the members of the ERC that this issue is
important and deserves their attention now. To learn more about the
proposed legislation and who to contact to show your support, please see the
attached legislative alert. If you are from a county that one of the ERC
members represents, your support is even more significant as one of their
direct constituents.
