The North Carolina Park Rangers at Jordan Lake Headquarters are looking for
one or two sets recycling bins to use in a recycling pilot project in the
Lake Jordan Camp grounds. They are looking for grant money, sponsorships,
donations, or gifts of actual bins (new or used). They plan to collect and
recycle aluminum cans, plastic, and glass bottles. The bins will be outside
exposed to the elements. If successful they will be able to spend less of
their budget cut resources on trash handling to support other park services,
as the park has a million plus visitors every year.
Home made recycling bins have failed because of campers, especially
children, have used them as trash cans. The Rangers are looking for any
design of recycle bin where it is obviously used for recycling.
Specifically, the Rangers need a design where people, especially kids, are
prevented from lifting a lid - thinking of it as a trash can. Under
requirements, the recycle bins must be, or can be changed to, friendly
color(s) for a public state park settings. Examples of bins would be like
the recycle centers found at many North Carolina highway rest stops, or at
drop off recycle centers used by some county and cities.
If anyone has questions Ranger Billy Totten, or his staff, would be happy to
talk with anyone on this, at William.Totten@ncmail.net or 919/362-0586.
