The North Carolina Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental
Assistance is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Organics
Recycling Specialist. The position provides technical assistance, conducts
research, oversees a small grant program, and pursues other activities to
build the organics recycling infrastructure statewide. Examples of clients
include waste generators, local governments, private composting operations,
state agencies, food rescue operations, and members of the public. Work
includes making recommendations for improvements in existing programs,
assessing current and potential financing methods, producing cost/benefit
analyses on management alternatives, and providing marketing assistance for
recyclable and compostable wastes. The position also actively participates
in North Carolina's efforts to mitigate environmental impacts from animal
wastes.
Candidates must have a strong professional background in organic waste
issues, including an understanding of composting processes, regulatory and
quality issues, compost applications and marketing, collection/processing of
solid waste, and nutrient management. Candidates must also have excellent
analytical, computer, and communication skills.
