GOVERNOR JAMES B. HUNT'S PAPERS
NOW AVAILABLE

Addresses and Public Papers of James Baxter Hunt Jr., Governor of North 
Carolina, 1993-1997, edited by Jan-Michael Poff of the Historical 
Publications Section, Department of Cultural Resources, documents the third 
term of the state's longest-serving chief executive. This volume of papers 
is now available FREE to the general public.

Since 1923, North Carolina has published the official papers of its 
governors in accordance with G.S. 121-6b. For more information about this 
series, visit the Historical Publications Section's web site at 
www.ah.dcr.state.nc.us/sections/hp/documentaries/governor.htm. Together 
with Volume I of the Hunt papers published in 1982 and Volume II published 
in 1987 (out of print), this new volume provides an important record of 
twelve eventful years in twentieth-century North Carolina. Also available 
free of charge are two volumes from the Martin administration.

Included in the third volume of Hunt papers are 254 speeches and press 
releases selected from over 1,800 available for the governor's third term. 
These papers explain policies and programs, discuss issues confronting the 
state, give voice to Hunt's opinions, and contain autobiographical 
elements. Lists of executive orders and omitted speeches further reveal the 
scope of Hunt's activities. For more information about the third volume

Volume III of the Hunt papers (hardbound, 716 pages, illustrations, index) 
is available through the Historical Publications Section. Copies may be
