State Agency Colleagues:
Recycle Collection Services Contract Awarded
After several months without a recycle collection contractor, the
Facility Management Division within the Department of Administration,
has awarded the Office Recycling Collection Services contract for the
Raleigh and surrounding area to Orange Recycling Services, Inc. and
American Recyclers.
Orange Recycling Services, Inc. a former recycle collection vendor with
the North Carolina State Government was awarded three of the four
collection service regions (Downtown, Dorothea Dix Campus-Chapanoke
Road, and the Capital Boulevard-Barrett Drive). The fourth and final
region, Blue Ridge Road, was awarded to American Recyclers a start-up
company with ties to Jacksonville, North Carolina.
During the preliminary proposal, evaluation and selection processes, a
multi-agency task group was convened to ensure that contract
requirements accurately fit the recycling needs of North Carolina State
Government facilities. Representatives from the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources, the Department of Health and Human
Services, the Department of Transportation, and the Department of
Administration served on the task group.
The recycle collection program has struggled in the absence of a
collection vendor since QuikShred was fired last November. State of
North Carolina employees should see improvement in the areas of
consistent and timely collection service with the hiring of Orange
Recycling Services, Inc. and American Recyclers.
Both companies commence service on Monday, March 4, 2002 in the effort
to "Restart Recycling". For more information about North Carolina State
Government's Recycle Collection Program within the Raleigh and
surrounding area please visit

In accordance with G.S.130A-309.14 (a), the Department of Administration
has been charged with establishing and maintaining the collection
program for all recyclable materials generated in State offices
throughout the State. The materials collected include aluminum cans,
mixed office paper, newspapers, recyclable glass bottles, and plastic
bottles.
