Today America celebrates recycling. Today marks the Sixth Annual
America Recycles Day where the goal is to educate all Americans about
the environmental and economic benefits of recycling in addition to
building consumer demand for recycled products.

It is great to know that North Carolina State Government and its
employees celebrate this holiday 365 days a year. Over the last year
North Carolina State Government offices in the downtown Raleigh and
surrounding areas have diverted over 2,000,000 pounds of recyclable
paper, newsprint, magazines, plastic and glass drink bottles, and
aluminum cans from area landfills.

In addition, more and more products purchased and used within North
Carolina State Government contain recycled materials.

Although these are great accomplishments, there is still plenty of room
for improvement in waste reduction and recycling at work and at home.
Take time today to recommit your efforts to recycling and buying
recycled products. Be a patriot, spread the word about America Recycles
Day.
